About
Both Postoctoral and Endeavour research projects aim to investigate processes and forms of “self-representation” in the colonial and postcolonial context of British Australia in order to understand which kind of theories, ideas, and debates on race, civilization, nationhood, and Empire, from the end of 19th to the first decades of 20th century, turned out as crucial for the building processes of the independent nation-state and self-representation as White Australia. My work is thus focussed on the topicality of the idea of whiteness in its particular Australian declination (as both settler colony and independent body politic) related to the idea of the (native/migrant) Other and the (English/British) Self and its connection to the theoretical, scientific and literary debates spread all over Europe and the West in the turn of the century.
